Rite Aid Deals Week of 3/7/10

This is a great week for diapers at Rite Aid! The best weekly SCR is for Procter and Gamble Products. When you by 30.00 worth of products, you will receive a 10.00 Rite Aid gift card. There are many options to put scenarios together, so I will put a few up, along with other deals that caught my eye. I am very disappointed we didn’t get the John Frieda or Biore coupons as I was expecting, but often the coupons in the inserts are regionally based. Oh well, maybe next time.

When doing these deals, don’t forget to use a $/$ coupon. There are several available, including 5/20.00 via Rite Aid Video Values, 3/15.00 and 5/25.00. The latter two require printing only, and no significant amounts of time. Depending on your schedule, choose the one that works for you, and keep your total close to that amount (15, 20, or 25.00). Do multiple transactions if you need to, and remember, the P&G items do not need to be purchased in one transaction. Just sometime this week.

Rite Aid Deals Week of 2/28/10

Rite Aid is on it this week with tons of great finds! There are many items on sale for 0.99 and tons of SCR items that end up costing 0.99 or less. Even a few money makers! I’m going tomorrow, on 2.28.10, as many of the coupons I want to use will expire tomorrow. I’m normally a Saturday shopper, which usually doesn’t work to my advantage.

If you aren’t into taking the time to watch the Rite Aid Video Values ads, there are two new coupons available. A 3.00/15.00 purchase coupon is available here, and it expires on 3.31.10. A 5.00/25.00 purchase is available here. When using these coupons, keep your purchase total as close to 15.00 or 25.00 as possible, depending on the coupon you choose to use. Do a couple transactions if necessary!

Well, tonight I learned something new. Just when I thought that I had this couponing thing down, I was reminded that, well, I don’t. I went to the convenience store tonight to get my papers with a dear friend who has a great blog at www.megasimple.blogspot.com.

I always pick up two copies of the Toledo Blade at 2.00 apiece, and ALWAYS recoup my money from that purchase. Tonight there were only two copies of the Toledo Blade, and Megan graciously allowed me to purchase both copies. She turned to grab an alternate paper, and picked up the Saturday edition of the Bryan Times. Well guess what? The Saturday edition of the Bryan Times has the EXACT same coupons as the Sunday Toledo Blade! And the cost? 50 cents.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what comes next. I don’t even read the paper. Thanks Meg, and I hope you enjoy your Bryan Times. :)

Rite Aid has some good deals this week that aren’t so overwhelming! I recently had a suggestion to tell readers how to shop at Rite Aid in a simpler fashion, so I am going to try my best. The Olay deal involves a mail in rebate…although I don’t usually participate in these, I may here because I have plenty of “Rite Aid money”, and there are some great coupons out for Olay products, resulting in a profitable trip!

The ad shows Olay Skin and Bath Care Products at a price of 3 for 18.00. There is a manufacturer’s Mail in Rebate form here, and the final cost is 3 products for 3.00. There are also Olay coupons, and if you have access to a few of them, the products will be at least free, and possibly a 7.00 profit. I have an Olay Regenerist coupon for 3.00 off in the P & G ad from 1.17.10. There are also two other 1.00 coupons in that insert as well. Utilize three coupons for at least an even break!

Another simple sale is the GE Extra Soft White Light Bulbs in a 4 pack. On sale for 2/4.00, there is a 3.00/2 in ad coupon, making the final price 2 for 1.00.

Motrin PM 20 count is on sale for 2.99. There is a 1.00 Motrin coupon available to make this item free.

I Ended January with a Bang for my Buck!

I had such a fun weekend! Saturday night, my son and I went on a date. The main reason for the trip was to get him some new pants that can actually be worn below his ankles. I think we must be growing, because it took us three tries one morning this week to find a pair of pants that fit. We had a lot of fun, and he even let me go Krogering! It’s amazing what a boy will do if he has a video game system to play (and a couple of treats in the cart).

Kroger has a Mega Event going on now, where if you purchase 10 participating items, 5.00 will be deducted instantly at checkout, dropping the price by 0.50 per item. I love Mega Events, and was really excited to get to actually take my time shopping!

I am not into listing all of the items on sale, but Southern Savers has a great list of the participating items compiled if you so desire to check them out. I went to the Kroger on Airport Highway in Swanton, but Defiance also has the same event going on, but with some different items. Be sure to check the online ad first if you are heading to Defiance.

My best deals included stockpile items such as Rotel Diced Tomatoes, Quaker Rice Cakes, Hunts Tomatoes, Hormel Chili, and Electrasol Dishwasher Detergent.

Here’s an example of a transaction that I did.

What, do you ask, will one do with all of these canned tomatoes? One will put them in her pantry and will use them before 2012 when they expire. Or one will donate them to a local pantry or Boy Scout Drive. One may make a crapload of chili, too. One of the main ideas in the moneysaving business is stockpiling, and this is a great example.

So at the end of the shopping trip, I had a full cart, including fruits, veggies, a packet of gravy mix, 40 individual cartons of yogurt, Little Debbie’s (a main food group in case you didn’t know), Electrasol, and more! With 3 Mega Event transactions (15.00 total), 43.00 in coupons, and 41.69 in savings with my Kroger card, my subtotal went from 118.00 to 31.84. 73% savings, and I still had a content little boy!

If I were a good girl, I would have went home to put my groceries away, and then gotten out my needlepoint work. Instead, I took B to dinner uptown, and I enjoyed a fabulous (and expensive) Cosmopolitan without feeling one bit guilty!

Perfect Timing for 2010

It's official, I have yet another addiction...Oh wait, that's old news. I am in love with couponing. I know a lot of people think it's a waste of time, not worth it, or just a pain in the butt, but I completely and totally, yet respectfully disagree. As an RN, I make a great paycheck for the two years of schooling that is required for an associate degree, but this couponing business totally supplements my income, leaving me to spend or save my money as I please.

Since I started this adventure in August of 2008, I have always wanted to keep track of my savings so I could see the concrete evidence. Now that, my friends, is WAY too much work for just a little satisfaction. However, at the end of 2009, I came across a new blog that might just be my fav. The Coupon Project is a great blog showcasing deals, sales, reader success stories, and much more. She is also a self proclaimed "Excel Nerd". I have no idea how to work a spreadsheet--at all. When I read the posting on the savings tracker method she uses, I was impressed. When I read on and saw she was willing to share with every reader, I was ecstatic! In this post, the savings tracker is explained in detail, and all of the necessary formulas are in place to make this work magic right away! Plug in your numbers and immediately you can see the savings reflected in the spreadsheet.

Kroger and Walgreens Trip

I try not to make too many “special” couponing trips unless I am able to go to multiple stores. Sunday night I had my sister convince me it was acceptable to take our 13 mpg Tundra to Defiance to go shopping. Figuring I spent about 6.00 on gas to get there and back, I think my trip justifies the gas expenditure. If you don't agree, please don't tell me. Let me live in my own little world of justification. Thanks.

I had multiple free item coupons that I had gotten in the mail, and they were all expiring on the 17th (which is why I chose Sunday evening to go!). I don’t know how or why I received these coupons, as I just have the typical shopper’s card.

My free items included:

• 7 up two liter
• 16 oz Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
• Loaf of Private Selection bread (multigrain fancy kind)
• Nabisco Wheat Thins
• Dole Bagged Salad
• One dozen eggs
• One pound mini carrots
• Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa

I also wanted to get some asparagus, which was on sale for 1.88/lb. Of course this was gone, but I did get a rain check. I picked up a few other stockpiling items and ended up spending 6.16. My savings rate after coupons and the free item coupons was 84%!

Walgreens came next. Even though I love to coupon, I will NOT give up Diet Pepsi. I try to buy it when it is on sale, but if I need it, I will pay full price. One of my vices…not too concerned. Walgreens has a special this week, through Saturday, on select Pepsi purchases. WYB 20.00, you receive a 10.00 RR, which right off the bat gives you 50% off. Register Rewards (RR) are like cash, but can only be used at Walgreens.

I love it when people say “But I will never go back to use my RR”. Boo hoo. Don’t believe it. As you are shopping for your Pepsi items, fill your cart with 10.00 worth of other items that you could use for your stockpile, bathroom or pantry. Ideally, these would be items on sale, at great prices. Check out the flyer. Check out with your Pepsi items, pay 20.00 or so, receive the RR, and then check out again and use your 10.00 RR to pay for the other items. If you know you won’t go back to use them, use them right away!

Remember, you cannot use your 10 Pepsi RR to buy more Pepsi products. It will not roll to give you the second set.

Aveeno Body, Face, and Bath products have a 1.00 in ad coupon. Combine this with a 2.00 printable coupon, and you might find a good deal. Prices of Aveeno lotion start at 3.49. I purchased a 4 oz lotion for 0.49, mainly as a filler item to get my (cousin’s) total above 20.00.

Purex 50 oz bottles are B1G1 Free, with the price of the first bottle 6.99. This price is ok if you need detergent now, but it isn’t the greatest price for buying ahead.

Combine these items as you wish for a total that is right above 20.00. Then use a 5/20.00 Adperks coupon first, followed by the rest of your coupons. You should easily end up with a profitable trip, even if it is a small one. Believe me, the small profits end up adding up. Well, here I am again, after another lengthy break. This fall was absolutely crazy around here. For the last four weeks I have enjoyed not having to worry about my classes, and have been able to go and do as I please. It has been wonderful! My new niece and nephew are both absolutely adorable. One is a firecracker baby, and the other was born August 4th. It has been fun to watch them grow and begin to develop their distinct personalities.

At the persistent urging of a friend, I am going to give the blog one last try. I love to do it, but the time it takes to create the posts is quite consuming at times. This friend, who I will call "Megan", has decided to create her own blog. She also loves to save money, but is blogging on alternative ways to save while maintaining a lifestyle based on simplicity. She is also blogging about food, design, remodeling, travel, technology, and photography. She has some great ideas and suggestions, and her blog is very interesting. I have been shopping when my schedule allows, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rite Aid right now! From July to December, I received checks totaling over $350.00. Knowing that I usually have profitable trips, it is safe to say that I bought over $500.00 worth of merchandise! Right now Rite Aid is sponsoring a Game of Life Sweepstakes. Adperks is a great benefit to have available when shopping Rite Aid, and the opportunity to obtain a 5.00 off of a 20.00 purchase is incredible! For me, it is close and convenient, and also very simple. The ability to combine the adperks and other Rite Aid coupons with manufacturer coupons helps to bring down out of pocket totals. Then add the Single Check Rebate Program savings to that!

Although I've been busy coming up with decent deals, I think my proudest couponing moment came Friday, when we finished up the last roll of toilet paper in the main bathroom in the house. It marked the end of the $2.50 toilet paper that I bought in APRIL of 2009! Yes, 36 rolls for $2.50 and it lasted us eight full months! That is one I will never forget!

I have been couponing and finding some good deals once in a while this last month. I had not shopped at Rite Aid at all in July until yesterday! And yesterday was the last day in the July rebate period! How sad! I have been shopping more at CVS, and Kroger while I am at the lake! CVS has a great monthly special for July. When you buy a Bayer Glucose Meter for 19.99 you will receive 5 ECB. If you don't know what ECB's are, follow one of the above links for a CVS tutorial. I have multiple coupons for these meters that will take off up to 30.00, so the meter itself ended up being free! I then received the 5 ECB's, for a total of 20.00 in ECB's without spending a dime! (The limit on the meter special was 4.) I have been rolling those ECB's on school supplies, which have been free after ECB's every Sunday through Tuesday. It is my goal to not spend any money on school supplies this year!

One deal that I did yesterday at the Kroger in Angola, IN was for Kleenex. Kleenex are on sale for 0.99 WYB 10 mega event items. I purchased 2 boxes of Anti-viral Kleenex and used a 0.50/2 coupon which tripled. So I paid 0.25 per box. I used this coupon several times and ended up buying about 12 boxes of tissues. Imagine my surprise when I received a catalina for 1.00 off my next shopping order courtesy of Kleenex. Not one, but 3 of them. Had I only bought the Anti-viral tissues they would have all been free after coupons and catalinas! I had bought regular Kleenex as well, for school, as the kids usually need to take several boxes!

I did great yesterday at Rite Aid too, getting tons of stuff for about 2.18 out of pocket. The value of the items that I purchased was 56.00, with most of them being on sale and having a partial rebate attached to them. I paid 35.93 OOP and will receive 33.75 in SCR. I rolled my May and June rebate checks to pay for today's purchases!

On a non couponing note, my kids have had a busy baseball and softball seasons, and we spent a week at the lake with really yucky weather! We had a great 4th of July, welcoming our new nephew/cousin Grayson Michael. Our niece/cousin Emersyn is due to arrive any day now! I have been trying to help my sisters out with their existing children while they grow and deliver these new children! It has been such a blessing, and I can't wait to watch these kids grow up together!

So there's a little highlight of what I've been doing. I am going to try hard to blog as much as I can, although when my classes resume in August I fear they will occupy most of my free time. I hope I am wrong though! Hope everyone else has had a great summer too!

Chief Super Doubles This Week!

Chief has super double coupons this week, starting today and going through next Wednesday. General Mills cereal is on sale 3/4.00, which is a great price! One up it and combine that sale with a 1.00/3 coupon for 0.66 per box!

Kellogg's is also on sale 3/8.00. Doesn't sound the greatest, but use 3 1.00 Kellogg's coupons to bring the price down again to 0.66 per box!

Eckrich Hot Dogs are 2/3.00. Use 1.00/2 coupon for hot dogs that are 0.50 per pack!

This is also a great time to stock up on some taco seasoning. Usually Ortega seasoning packets are about 1.19 each. Use a 0.75/2 coupon for some cheap seasoning! About 0.44 each!

One other item I will check out is Colgate. The ad says selected varieties are 10/10. Possibly the variety that we have coupons for? Chief won't give overage, but at least it would be free toothpaste. Because we all know you can never have enough!

Last week I noticed the cereal sale at Chief that started on Thursday. All of my printable Kellogg's coupons expired on Wednesday. :( In today's paper there are new Kellogg's 1.00 off coupons! This cereal sale goes through Wednesday, so there's plenty of time to get some cheap cereal and free milk!

The cereals on sale are Froot Loops, Corn Flakes, Frosted Flakes, Apple Jacks, and Corn Pops 12.2 oz or larger. The price is 4/8.00 and with the in ad coupon you get a free gallon of milk! Last night the fam and I decided to go out to dinner, because we were both too lazy to cook. Let me set the stage... I was exhausted, from staying up too late and working too hard during the day (well, kind of...). I didn't really want to go, but the alternative meant scrounging up a dinner for four with a very limited food selection. Around 7:30 we headed into town to go to Ruby Tuesday's. I forgot my coupon bag, and I didn't want to ask the hubby to turn around so I could grab it. I thought I would be ok since I just needed produce. We go to Ruby Tuesday's often during the summer months, and for a bonus, I had printed a BOGO meal coupon. So we ate, racking up a bill of 50.00 for mediocre food, even with the coupon. With a gut ache and an empty wallet, off we go to Meijer.

Since I started couponing in August, I have RARELY taken my kids shopping with me, and I have NEVER taken my husband. After last night, I remember why.

Last weekend my husband asked me, "Can you just get groceries like you used to?" The translation means, can you get junk food and not worry about the prices? I laughed at him and honestly told him I didn't think I could! I gave it my best shot and came home with 2 boxes of Little Debbie Strawberry Rolls and 2 bags of chips! I was pretty happy, and no one really complained.

Fast forward to last night. I guess I didn't satisfy the sweet tooth, because our cart looked like, well, just look at the picture. I had both kids and the husband, who have all been deprived of sweets and junk for some time now. The reason I wanted to go was to get fruit and veggies, but the produce looked awful. I wouldn't have taken any of it home, even if I didn't have to pay anything for it! So on we go, without anything green or grown from a tree.

At first I thought shopping might just be ok. The husband was comparing prices of name brand graham crackers vs. Meijer brand. After he realized what he was doing he looked at me and said "I can't believe you have me comparing prices!"

Then we came to the Little Debbie and doughnut section. Game over. Finished. Bye bye. Nutter Butters, Hostess doughnuts, Strawberry Rolls, and so many etc.'s it's not funny. 5.00 boxes of cereal! Easy Cheese? Not one bottle but two! Why? Because they were 2/6.00! Not 1/3.00? Pain!?*#!! Agony!($&#%@ Despair@*#&@)!! I tried acting out my best impersonation of a choking victim. That didn't work, and my cart was still full of overpriced junk food. So then I showed them my best panic attack show. After several panic attacks, I gave up and decided that this would be the last time for another nine months before they get to go with me again! I do have to say that the Nutter Butters are very tasty, and Hostess crumb doughnuts are very good as well.

My wonderful, adorable, lovely family cost me 75.00 last night. 75.00 on junk food and a fairly unnecessary shower head. 10 pounds of Russet potatoes was the only healthy and low cost purchase of the evening. It hurts. Still hurts today. And probably will tomorrow. Watching my adorable son happily and eagerly eat a big bowl of Cookie Crisp this morning didn't even help. I bet a few of you know what I mean.

Ouch. Nuf said.

On my way home from the lake, I stopped into CVS for their two day sale. I only had 4 ECB's going in, so I knew I would have to do multiple transactions. I searched the store high and low for the Neutrogena 1 oz sunscreen that would have given me a 6.00 profit, but I could not find any! :( Onward, and upward...

My best find of the day was a clearance cart of overstocked baby stuff for 75% off! I have TWO pregnant sisters, both due this summer. The one clearance cart had 25 oz Enfamil canisters for 6.50! The same type one of my sister's used with her first baby. I rang up most of the baby purchases separately, as I couldn't possibly use my ECB's on something that wouldn't roll!

I usually wait until the end of the week to do my Rite Aid shopping, but I wanted to be sure to use the 5/25 coupon before it expires on Thursday. I haven't seen or heard of another one coming out, but I will be watching. So here's what I did tonight for 0.39!

One tip I have is to try to make your filler items something useful if at all possible. I needed almost a 5.00 filler to hit 25.00, so I chose the Tampax for 8.49. It is definitely useful, and I noticed it had a rebate attached. I could have chosen something lower in price to make my trip profitable, but the tampons won out. Of course, if your filler only needs to be 1.00 or so, throw a pack of gum up, or a candy bar. Those are both quite useful too!

I'm Still Here!

I wanted to let you all know that I am still here, just very busy! I am finishing up my last paper for the semester today, so watch out! Next week I will have plenty of posts for you. Rite Aid looks good this week, so I will see what money making scenarios I can come up with!

April 30th is coming up this week, and tons of my coupons are expiring. I have been trying to pay attention to the good coupons that are expiring, so I don't miss out. I just stopped at Kroger, and used 5 2.00 Marcal Toilet Paper coupons on 5 6 roll packs of toilet paper that were on sale for 2.50 each. That's 30 rolls of toilet paper for 2.50 (the cost of six rolls)! I can handle that!

I also used my 1.50 off Kraft Salad Dressing coupons at Walmart. These are expiring 4-29-09. I know I said I don't shop there much, but somethings you just can't get at CVS. Like basketball nets and laundry baskets! Anyway, the price of the salad dressings are on roll back for 1.58. I used 5 coupons and got each dressing for 0.08!

Kroger Triple Coupons This Weekend!

The Toledo area Kroger stores are tripling coupons this weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There is no limit to the number of coupons you can triple. Any coupon up to and including 0.50 will be tripled. Kroger stores are open on Easter Sunday as well.

Another promotion Kroger is running right now allows you to "Design Your Own Reusable Shopping Bag" and they will ship it to you free. Check out the link here for more information.

For anyone who shops at Walgreen's, I am reading rumors that they are doing away with their monthly program and the Easy Saver Catalog. Although I have a love/hate relationship with Walgreen's, I am sad to see this program go.

Just because I was curious, I added up my rebate earnings since I started shopping there in September. My total rebate earnings with the monthly program has been 196.80 to date. 17.91 of this rebate money is a 10% bonus given when you request your payment via a Walgreen's gift card. This total doesn't include Register Reward earnings or the weekly flier coupons that I use.

I hate to see this go, but I am hopeful Walgreen's will come up with something to replace the Easy Saver Catalog. I guess I'll wait and see...

I'll try to summarize it here. My subtotal was 62.45. After coupons at the register I owed 21.45. I then used 20.00 in RR which took my total OOP to 5.37 with tax. Not bad, not bad, but it gets better. Keep in mind I earned 3.00 RR for the Tums, and I will submit for another 11.99 in the monthly program! Including my extra 10% gift card bonus, that's a profit of 10.81 for the night!

Oh, I almost forgot! I also picked up a mail in rebate peelie for Crest Pro Health! I'll probably send that in too for another 3.25! That means I got reimbursed the cost of the toothpaste from CVS plus another 4.25 for the coupon and rebate! Thanks go out to everybody involved!

Super Double Coupons at Chief 3/19/09

Chief is having a super double event starting Thursday March 19th. During this week Chief will double coupons up to and including 1.00. This is a great time to get out your coupons with a value between 0.51 and 1.00 and see what you can do! They do impose rules, as I have listed below. My Meijer trip seemed time consuming, but I was in and out in an hour and fifteen minutes. This included bathroom breaks, repositioning a seven year old from the end of the cart, into the cart, to under the cart, to the baby seat all the while NEVER missing a beat on his Nintendo DS, checking out three times, three calls on my cell, and a frozen checkout computer. Besides making the little old lady behind me very mad, I thought it turned out ok.

Meijer will only double 2 identical coupons per transaction. I've been burned before, so I set out to work the system! And it worked! I don't buy only junk food, either. Today I bought lettuce, 6 avocados, 3 quarts of strawberries, bananas, grapes, carrots, chunk cheese, sunflower seeds, canned beans, hummus, bread, and really good looking frozen pizzas!

I have not REALLY gotten groceries in...quite a while. My last big grocery bill was 75.00 on -- get this, January 12th!!! I of course have been places to get some groceries, but nothing major. Needless to say, I needed to get food.

Meijer has a great 10/10 sale this week with tons of coupon matchups. If you want more details on this check out www.bargainbriana.com. I will try my best to give you an accurate picture of how I did on my next post, without typing everything out.

First, I went to Kroger while monkey boy was at a football clinic. I only went for the sale items, and I had planned most of this out ahead of time. They have a mega event going, so when you buy 10 participating items 5.00 will be taken off at checkout. Basically, you end up paying 0.50 less than the sale price for each item.

The 8 tubs of margarine were all free, as were the rice cakes. The yogurt was a good price, and I was completely out. Not to mention the price of the milk!

Huge Huggies Coupons!!!

Check out www.coupons.com for two Huggies coupons. These were up last week, and were reset. There is one for 5.00 off any gentle care diaper product, and one for 3.00 off any natural fit diaper product. I am assuming these can be used on wipes as well, which would result in some BIG packages for free or very cheap. When printing, hit your back browser button three times to print them again. I have found them on the last page of the website when going back for the second print. Print them and have your families print them too! Coupons of this value don't come around often!

Walgreens is having a promotion starting tomorrow March 8th. Through the 15th, Huggies will be on sale for 10.00 a pack. When you by 25.00 worth you will receive 10 Register Rewards (RR) which can be used like cash in the store. Remember though, you can't roll your Huggies RR into another Huggies purchase. Consider using the RR to buy free after rebate items for the month or other RR producing deals.

Walgreens and CVS

I don't take the time to blog weekly about Walgreens and CVS. Mainly, because I don't have time, and because we don't have them here in town. If you want to shop these stores for their sales, check out a couple of great blogs.

http://www.thethriftymama.com/ and http://www.dealseekingmom.com/ both have weekly sales and deals posted. They also continually update if new deals pop up. They are a great resource for figuring out sales and deals! Some blogs give tutorials on how to work the ECB's and RR's also! Each store is different, and it can get quite confusing (see Walgreens post below!). Use these ladies and their wealth of info!

Walgreens tonight was kind of frustrating, but, in the end, turned out OK. They were out of most of the Register Reward (RR) items that I wanted, and don't get a truck in until Friday. Well, of course, I can't go again this week, but I am sure I will survive.

I couldn't quite figure out how to put this together, and I am sure I could have saved a bit more. I also screwed up my Vaseline deal by buying four bottles of lotion in one transaction. Instead of getting 8.00 in RR, I only got 2. It would have been a BIG moneymaker. I should have split them up into single transactions. Lesson learned: RR will only print for one item, not four. Buy one at a time. By the way, you can't use a RR to turn around and pay for the same item again.

All in all, not a bad night. 7.35 OOP for 48.84 worth of products and a prescription. Plus, I came home with the 25.00 GC!

Stockpiling at Rock Bottom Prices

Here's another random for ya...stockpiling. When I first started couponing in August, it seemed toothpaste was my main stockpiling item. My family AND friends made fun of me, saying "Why do you need 10 tubes of toothpaste? Nobody needs that much toothpaste!" My response? "I will use it before it expires, and I didn't pay much of anything for it! And by the way, I have 14 tubes, not 10."

Stockpiling is great, and with a little effort, it won't take long before you see your stockpile grow. The first step is obtaining multiple sets of coupons. This may mean begging off family and friends, and enduring their relentless riddling, or it may mean spending a couple extra dollars on Sunday papers. Either way, you'll survive. Having multiples of a coupon will allow you to buy more than one of that item, obviously. But the trick is knowing when to use the coupons. Typically stores put items on sale about every six weeks. When the item that you have a coupon for is on sale, that's the time to buy!

For example, I had Old El Paso Coupons a while back. The local grocery store had taco shells on sale, and I used my coupons to buy about six boxes for next to nothing. Another stockpiling item from a few weeks ago was Betty Crocker Warm Delights. They were on sale for a great price, and I had tons of coupons for them. Over the course of a week, I bought about 20 or so, for only a couple dollars! The kids and the husband are still eating them!

Just because you have a coupon doesn't mean you should go out and use it. Hang onto it, and wait for the item to go on sale! Then, go hog crazy buying as many as you can, as long as you can use it before it goes bad. If you do overbuy on an item that you can't use, consider donating it to a local food pantry, or give the item to those friends and family members that poke fun at you. I'm voting for the food pantry.

I know I am posting WAY too much in one day, but I am on a roll! I get Chief's flier via email the afternoon before the new sales start, and I was just glancing at it instead of doing my homework. I am really, really proud of myself for figuring out a General Mills deal for only 1.60. Read on to see what I am talking about. I'll highlight some other sales first.

Buy in Bulk? No way!

I haven't posted too many "random thoughts", but I am going to start trying harder to do this. One subject I have been thinking about posting is buying in bulk.

Before I started couponing, I would go to Walmart once a month or so, and spend over 200.00 on everything that we needed, including food, bathroom stuff, household and personal items. I am so happy to say that I have not done this since August! I would almost always purchase the largest package of the item I was buying, thinking this was the best deal, and the most convenient.

Using coupons, I have shifted my thinking from buying in bulk, to buying super small. Here's a couple examples. Before coupons (BC) I purchased my toilet paper in 24 roll packages, and usually bought two packs each time. Now, whenever I head to Toledo or am near Kroger, I stop and use multiple Cottonelle coupons for 4 roll packs. Kroger sells 4 roll packs for 0.99, and often there are 0.50 coupons that are doubled to 1.00. So, instead of paying 6.00 for 24 rolls, I don't pay anything for multiple 4 roll packs!

Another example that comes to mind is Reynold's Wrap. I would always buy the 200 sq ft or larger rolls, again for convenience. Recently, there has been 1.00 off Reynold's Wrap coupons. I wait to use these coupons until Walgreen's puts 20 sq ft rolls on sale for 0.89 or 0.99, and then use the 1.00 coupon. So now, I have 200 sq ft in my pantry, just in many many rolls, instead of one! And, they were all free!

Last month, Kroger had Daisy Sour Cream on sale 10/10, but the packages were only 8 oz. Who cares? I took my 0.50 coupon, which doubled to 1.00, and again, they were all free!

Frank's Red Hot Sauce is another coupon out right now that is great to use for a small package. Use the 0.50 coupon at Meijer to purchase the smallest size of Frank's, rather than a bigger one. The small bottles are 0.99, and your coupon will double! Remember, Meijer only doubles two of each coupon, so limit your purchases to two of each item/coupon.

So, as you are shopping, think about buying small, rather than in bulk. You might be surprised how much money you save!

This may seem silly to some, but I received 13 dollars in the mail today! I got a 8 dollar rebate for buying Flintstone Vitamins, and 5 dollar Chevron Gift Card for playing an online game. Sending in for the vitamin rebate took me about 3 minutes, and playing the Chevron game took me about 30 seconds! I don't often mail in for rebates, because I am too lazy, and don't want to take the time to do so. I am glad I took a couple minutes, because this "bought" our pizza tonight! Now I just need to find a Chevron Station to use my gift card!

Walgreen's is a little harder to understand. They have a monthly rebate program, weekly sales with in-ad coupons, and a register reward program (RR). I have learned how to combine the three to maximize my savings.

For the past couple weeks the coupon inserts have been very sadly missed due to the holidays. From what I have been reading, January 4th will be a great day to buy a couple of papers. There will be at least 4 inserts, with a possibility of 5! I plan on buying a couple of papers myself! Most of my coupons expired on December 31st, so I am ready to start fresh again!

I want to start tracking my savings this year, and I thought starting today 1/1/09, would be a good idea. The only problem is, I don't have excel, and I am not really familiar with other spreadsheets. So, when I get something figured out, I will post on it. I know I feel like there is a difference in my spending, but I just want to have something concrete to look at. If anyone has any ideas on the best program to use to track something like this, please leave a comment!

Rite Aid is offering quite a few deals this week, but many of the offers are spaced out on different days. All week long you can get a 6 outlet power strip for 5.00 with a 5.00 SCR, and a Phillips Universal Remote for 4.99 with a 4.99 SCR.

Three day rebates for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday include Maybelline Mascara or Extreme Lip Color for 4.99 with a 4.99 SCR, and Maybelline Salon Express Finish Nail Color for 2.99 with a 2.99 SCR. Garnier Nutritioniste Eye Roller has a 5.00 SCR, but I don't know the purchase price.

Friday only deals include Fructis shampoo or conditioner 13 oz for 2.99 with a 2.99 SCR.

There are other deals with partial refunds available, but I usually go for the free after rebate items.

Another program Rite Aid has is the Gift of Savings offered 11/16 through 12/24. If you spend 25-50$ during these dates Rite Aid will send you a gift certificate for 5.00. If you spend 51.00-100.00, you will receive a certificate for 10.00. Over 100.00 in spending will get you 20.00 back. This is ON TOP OF the SCR program! All items you purchase for the SCR program also count for the Gift of Savings program too!

So, Kroger Mix and Match event is awesome, even without coupons. I was excited to see it has carried over to Defiance this week. The deals are very similar, but not quite the same. And today, I get the paper and see that it's continuing at every other Kroger as well! Defiance Kroger will run their specials through Wednesday November 12th, and every other Kroger will start Monday November 10th and run through Sunday the 16th. Chief Triple Coupons Through Wednesday!

Sorry about the late post, but life and children are seeming to get in the way of my blogging! Just kidding, but I wanted to let you all know about Chief's triple coupons this week. Any coupon 0.50 and under will be tripled. I am not sure if overage will be given off of your shopping order though. I will update when I figure this out. I haven't seen triple coupons since I started couponing in August! Chief's ad will run through Wednesday November 12th. I found several free and cheap deals while glancing through the flier online. I'm sure there are many more deals to be found throughout the store! Please leave a comment if you find any other deals!

The first deal I see is for a dinner plan. If you typically buy your meat at the grocery this is a pretty good deal. Chief has USDA Choice Beef Boneless Bottom Round Roast for 3.99 per pound. The average roast is 3 pounds. If you purchase a roast you can get a free 4 pound bag of Idaho potatoes, 1 pound bag of Green Giant Baby Peeled Carrots, and a free 3 pound bag of Green Giant Yellow onions.

Pilsbury Brownie mix 10/10. Use 1.00 off 2 boxes for .50 brownie mix.

CutRite Wax Paper 10/10. Use 0.50 off 1 for possible .50 overage.

Fleischmann's Yeast 10/10. Use 0.45 off one strip for possible 0.35 overage.

Carnation Evaporated Milk 10/10. Use 0.50 off two. 0.25 each

Green Giant Boxed Veggies 4/5.00. Use 0.50 off two for cost of 0.50 each. (Not the best, but still good.)
